About the studio

Dire Goose Studios is a small software company registered in Colorado. We build places where communities can share the parts of their lives that matter to them, with people they choose, on their own terms.

We started it because we kept noticing the same thing. There are communities sharing genuinely personal parts of their lives on software that is old, clunky and years past caring. The people are wonderful. The tools they are stuck with are slow, awkward, and often careless with exactly the information that needs the most looking after. That gap is the whole reason we are here, and closing it is what we are trying to do.

So we work in the other order from most people. Who can see a thing, for how long, and what happens when that goes wrong get designed first. The rest is built to fit around them. Safety and privacy are not a phase near the end of a project for us, they are the constraint everything else is shaped by, and that is true of anything we put our name on.

We are small on purpose. It means we can talk to the people using what we make, and it means when someone tells us something is wrong we can go and fix it that week instead of putting it on a roadmap.

What we come back to

Every company has values on a page somewhere. These are the three we actually argue about when a decision is close, so they are the ones worth writing down.

01

Community comes first

We build for the group, not the metric.

A lot of software in this space is built to hold your attention for as long as possible. We are not interested in that. We build for the people in the room and for whatever makes the room worth being in. We would rather run a small place where people feel at home than a large one that nobody actually enjoys.

02

Shaped by the people who use it

We ask, we listen properly, and then we change what we made.

We would rather ship something small and hear what is wrong with it than guess for six months and find out later. The people using a thing know things we do not. So we ask them, we take the answer seriously even when it is inconvenient, and we change the product rather than explaining why it is fine.

03

Safety and privacy are non-negotiable

You decide who sees what you share, and that promise is the product.

People should be able to be open about the parts of their lives they do not put everywhere else, and know exactly who can see it and for how long. That is the reason this studio exists, not a section of a settings page. It means collecting as little as we can and never selling any of it. It means the machinery that protects people gets built first and gets the same care as anything on the front page. Trust is the whole thing we run on, so none of this is a feature we could ship without.

If any of that sounds like your kind of thing

We are always glad to hear from people who care about this stuff, whether you want to work with us, tell us we got something wrong, or just say hello.
